Daily face-to-face instructional delivery aligned to Florida benchmarks
In Person Instructional Delivery:
Instruction will be delivered Monday – Friday between the hours of 9 am and 2 pm including a 30-minute lunch break. Monday – Thursday will consist of ELA/Social Studies, Math, and Science instruction for 90 minutes each. Friday will be more flexible, consisting of student directed learning facilitated by the instructor, interventions, enrichment, and project-based learning.
Enrichment Activities
Enrichment Activities:
Through strategic partnerships and field experiences, we will expose students to enrichment activities outside of core instruction. As members of our program, students and parents will commit to exploring a minimum of 2 electives each year as a home project-based learning requirement. Areas of study can include but are not limited to, the arts, cultural studies, career planning, financial literacy, health and wellness, and technology.
Educational Training Classes for Families
Educational Training Classes for Families:
Because parents are not required to have any educational qualifications to homeschool, we will offer educational training classes to parents and community members to equip them with strategies, tools, resources, and skills needed to maximize student learning outcomes.
Assistance with Creating an Individualized Student Learning Plan
Assistance with Creating an Individualized Student Learning Plan:
This plan is used to guide instruction for students and address the services needed to fulfill academic needs.
Portfolio Management
Portfolio Management:
Parents are required to maintain a portfolio of records and materials consisting of a log of educational activities along with work samples that shall be made available for inspection by the district school superintendent, or the district school superintendent’s agent, upon 15 days’ written notice.
Student Progress Monitoring and Evaluation
Student Progress Monitoring and Evaluation:
Duval County Homeschool Parents: Parents shall select one of five annual educational methods of evaluation and file a copy annually with the district school superintendent’s office. One method consists of a teacher holding a valid regular Florida certificate to teach academic subjects at the elementary or secondary level evaluating the student’s educational progress upon review of the portfolio and discussion with the student. The student may also take any nationally normed student achievement test administered by a certified teacher or a state student assessment test used by the school district and administered by a certified teacher, at a location and under testing conditions approved by the school district.
